Raphael Ebiefung is a PhD student at the School of Information Science, University of South Carolina. He previously served as a faculty member and librarian in Nigeria before his doctoral studies. His research, which is at the intersection of academic libraries, GenAI in education, Information behavior, and Leadership in libraries, has been published in reputable Journal outlets, including the
Journal of Academic Librarianship. He holds an Exemplary Scholar award as a Fellow of the Grace Jordan McFadden Professors Program (GJMPP). As a panelist, Raphael draws on his ongoing qualitative study, Heutagogy and AI-informed assessment strategies of LIS educators in the United States and Nigeria, to discuss perceptions and concerns about Heutagogy as a teaching approach and students’ autonomy in the era of GenAI.
