Darin Freeburg is an associate professor at the University of South Carolina’s iSchool, where he teaches courses on information literacy, information policy, and workplace information practices. His current research considers the frictionless design mandates that drive the development of tools, like GenAI. These mandates are intended to lower the effort required by users to consume and produce information. While these aims can empower users and support the objectives of LIS, Freeburg’s research considers the potential for overzealous eradication of friction to increase mis/disinformation, digital inequality, and threats to informational privacy.
