2026 ALISE Annual Conference

As public libraries are increasingly tasked with addressing complex psychosocial needs of their diverse patrons, LIS education must adapt to this expanding and evolving role. This poster positions the design of an interdisciplinary graduate course integrating social work and librarianship as a lens through which to explore how educators and service providers can respond to the blurring of the boundaries between librarianship and social work. In particular, the authors delve into ways to leverage the close alignment between the core competencies of the two fields, incorporating their principles into the current professional practice.
