 Navigating the oftentimes overwhelming deluge of information in today’s society can be especially challenging for low-socioeconomic status, historically marginalized, or immigrant populations in the United States. For US households where individuals have limited English-speaking abilities, there are many challenges to overcome. Fortunately, some families with limited English-speaking abilities often include children who, through educational opportunities, learn English successfully. Many children who attend English-speaking schools tend to learn English quickly and serve as “child language brokers” for their families in a variety of formal and complex situations. This research seeks to examine intergenerational information transfer and whether child language brokers help increase their families' information literacy levels.
