This work-in-progress study examines how perceived data veracity influences researchers’ engagement with scientific research data. It explores how judgments about data trustworthiness, truthfulness, and reliability shape confidence in data use, which in turn affects access, interpretation, and reuse. Using a cross-sectional survey of researchers across disciplines in the United States, the study will test the mediating role of data use confidence. The findings are expected to contribute to information behavior research and inform data literacy initiatives, researcher training, and the design of data services that support trustworthy and effective data use.
