2026 ALISE Annual Conference

Using data for the academic years of 2021-22 through 2024-2025 from two national databases, an exploratory demography was conducted to see if the chilling effect is present at ALA-Accredited LIS institutions. Initial results indicate that at the national level, there has been a statistically significant increase in racial diversity of student and faculty, and institutional investment in university libraries and LIS programs. This suggests that LIS programs are a site of resistance in the face of increased institutional oppression.
