2026 ALISE Annual Conference

This poster reports on preliminary findings from a survey of 31 archival institutions across the United States who house archival materials related to LGBTQIA+ history. The survey focuses on at-risk archival holdings in the context of LGBTQIA+-focused collections.  Within this survey, “at-risk” included materials that were at-risk due to their physical decay or potential obsolescence. Additionally, the survey considered those materials at-risk due to the presence of political or social pressures of removal.  The findings highlight how practitioners conceptualize and justify preservation work across a variety of archival contexts and provides theoretical and practical implications for future preservation work.
