2026 ALISE Annual Conference

Grounded in critical race theory (Ladson-Billings, 1998), critical feminist theory (hooks, 2000), and intersectionality (Crenshaw, 1991), this exploratory social justice case study examined the information needs of MENA women refugees in urban public libraries in a southern U.S. state. Findings revealed that discrimination, language barriers, and cultural exclusion suppress refugee women's ability to ask critical life questions. The study co-designed with participants an Information Services Model, a Roadmap, and Strategic Action Plans across six life domains.
