2026 ALISE Annual Conference

This project reframes library makerspaces as spaces of world-building rather than simply innovation labs. Drawing on Hannah Arendt and Marx, it argues that makerspaces redistribute the cultural means of production through which communities materialize questions about memory, identity, and justice into durable public artifacts. By examining whose knowledge has historically defined “making,” this work critiques the dominance of technical epistemologies and explores how participatory archival and identity-centered practices can expand what counts as knowledge production in libraries.
