About me
Wan-Chen Lee is an assistant professor and a member of the Knowledge Organization Research Group at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Information Studies. She received her MLIS, MSIS, and PhD at the University of Washington Information School. Her research interests are knowledge organization, culture and resource description, metadata, and responsible AI in librarianship.Dr. Lee examines how knowledge organization systems can better reflect cultural contexts and support responsible AI practices. She uses methods such as document analysis, ethnography, interviews, surveys, and text analysis to investigates interoperability and global-local tensions in resource description. Recently, she received grants as PI to study the challenges and opportunities of AI and its responsible application in library and information settings. Dr. Lee also studies cultural stewardship and metadata design for multimedia resources, such as video games, anime, and fiction, to improve their description, representation, and retrieval.Her work has been published in Journal of Documentation, Knowledge Organization, and The Library Quarterly, and funded by organizations like the American Library Association (ALA) and the Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute (NMDSI).
