About me
Romina Marazzato Sparano is a PhD candidate in Library and Information Science at the University at Buffalo, advised by Jianqiang Wang and Cassandra Jacobs. Her dissertation examines how writing strategies—traditional technical writing, AI-generated content, and human plain language—shape adult reading comprehension and ability to act on information. She is the developer of the RAISE™ (Relevance, Accessibility, Intelligibility, Suitability, and Efficacy) discourse annotation framework and has contributed to plain language through the development of ISO Standard series 24495 and the RADx® initiative at the National Institutes of Health and US Access Board. A board member of the American Translators Association and former board member of Plain Language Association International, she is also founder of Plain Language International Inc. where she consults for private and public sector clients, and the AI in Writing Summit, serving writing professionals world-wide.
